# Schedules & Time Blocks

**Schedules** define *when* you work—not *what* you work on. MNTT switches schedules automatically based on the clock. During an active block, Focus shows the next **action** from that schedule only.

## Create a schedule

1. Go to **Setup → Schedules**
2. Click to add a new schedule (or edit an existing one)
3. Give it a **name** and **color** you will recognize
4. Paint hours on the **weekly grid**—click and drag to select blocks
5. Save

**Example starting set:**
- **Creative** — deep work, mornings
- **Flexible** — email, meetings, admin
- **Personal** — evenings and weekends

## How automatic switching works

When the clock enters a painted block, that schedule becomes **active**. Focus updates to show actions assigned to that schedule. When the block ends, MNTT moves to the next schedule (or shows a calm empty state if nothing is scheduled).

Turn on **Show Schedule Time Remaining** in **Setup → Options → Notes & schedule** to see a countdown in the header for the current block.

## Schedule override

By default, **Enable Schedule Override** (Setup → Options) shows a schedule picker in the header on Focus. Use it when you want to work from a different block manually—for example, jumping into **Creative** during an admin hour without repainting your week.

Select **No Schedule** to pause automatic context entirely.

## Alert on schedule change

In the schedule editor, **Alert on start** and **Alert on end** can flash the same full-screen alert splash used by Alerts (with optional sound and background). The schedule still switches immediately—the alert only notifies you. Useful when you want a clear boundary between contexts (e.g. leaving Work, entering Personal).

## Use cases

**Consultant:** One schedule per client color-blocked on the week grid. Your main screen always matches who you are billing this hour.

**Creative:** Protect deep-work hours first. Let admin and email live in a separate, smaller block.

**Backlog pattern:** Create a **Backlog** schedule with no painted hours (or off-hours only). Park future actions there; each week, drag a handful into your active schedules.

## Tips

- Block your best energy hours before filling the rest of the week
- Keep painted hours realistic—empty blocks are fine
- See total and remaining hours for the week on the Schedules setup page
- Pair with **Overview** for a weekly snapshot of open work per schedule
