# Multi-Monitor Setup in My Next Thing Today

My Next Thing Today is designed to work seamlessly across multiple monitors, making it easy to keep your tasks visible on a secondary monitor while you work on your primary screen. This feature is available after you install the app as a Progressive Web App (PWA). (which is a button at the bottom of the Setup->Options)

## How Multi-Monitor Support Works

The multi-monitor feature solves a common workflow challenge: you want MNTT visible on a secondary monitor to keep track of your tasks, but it's difficult to see and edit things on a window that's far away. With multi-monitor support, you can quickly toggle MNT between your primary monitor (for editing) and an alternate monitor (for viewing).

## Getting Started

The buttons referenced here are NOT visible until MNTT is installed as an "app".  Once MNTT is installed as an app, you'll see new options in the Settings page under "Window Positions" at the bottom of the form.

### Enable In-App Window Management

The first step is to enable in-app window management. Chrome and Edge block this feature by default for security reasons, but it's worth taking a few moments to set this up.  I love this feature.

1. Go to Settings in My Next Thing Today
2. Find the "Window Positions" section
3. Click "Enable In-App Window Management"
4. Follow any prompts from your browser to allow window positioning
5. If this feature is already enabled, you will get a "toast" message letting you know
6. The browser folks seem to always be changing how these security features are set so if you have any issues, either drop me a note or a quick GPT search will likely yield a quick answer

If you encounter an error, Chrome or Edge will tell you what settings it's requesting. This is a one-time setup that unlocks one of the most powerful features of MNTT.

### Primary vs. Alternate Positions

- **Primary Position**: This is where you'll do your editing. This is typically your primary monitor where you have better visibility and control.
- **Alternate Position**: This is where you want MNT to start and where it will reside most of the time. This is typically your secondary monitor where you can glance at your tasks while working.

**Important**: If you mix up primary and alternate, don't worry—just capture the positions again. The system is flexible and forgiving.

## Setting Up Your Window Positions

1. **Position and size MNTT** on your primary monitor (where you'll edit) exactly how you want it to appear
2. Click **"Capture Primary"** to save this position
3. **Move MNTT** to your secondary monitor (where you'll view it) and position/size it as desired
4. Click **"Capture Alternate"** to save this position
5. **Test the toggle** by clicking the logo in the upper left corner—MNT should jump between the two positions

### Tips for Setup

- If you capture both positions in the same screen location, no harm done—the window just won't move when toggling
- You can recapture positions at any time if you want to adjust them
- The window size and position are saved independently for each location

## Toggling Between Monitors

Once set up, you have two ways to toggle MNT between monitors:

### Method 1: Click the Logo

Click the My Next Thing Today logo in the upper left corner of the app window. This instantly moves MNT between your primary and alternate positions.

### Method 2: Use the F10 Hotkey

Press **F10** to toggle between positions. **Important**: The MNT window must be the active (focused) window for F10 to work. 

**Pro Tip**: It's usually better to click the logo first to bring MNT to your main screen, then use F10 (or click the logo again) to send it back. This ensures the window is focused and ready for keyboard shortcuts.

### Theme Colors

The theme colors feature allows you to style MNTT for easy identification across your monitors. Choose a distinct color theme that makes MNTT stand out from your other applications, making it easy to spot at a glance.

- Quickly bring MNTT to your main screen when you need to edit
- Send it back to a secondary monitor when you're done (F10 or click the logo)

## Troubleshooting

- **F10 doesn't work**: Make sure the MNT window is active (click on it first, that's a browser thing)
- **Window doesn't move**: Check that you've captured both primary and alternate positions in different locations
- **Browser blocking window management**: Follow the browser prompts to enable the necessary permissions
- **Positions seem mixed up**: Simply recapture the positions—there's no penalty for getting it wrong
